In this article we will try to provide useful information about the dangers it represents as well as extensive removal instructions. It is advisable that you read carefully each and every paragraph of this article, so that you can avoid finding yourself in a similar position again.

It should be noted that when we say QkSee “Virus” we are referring to the general term used by our readers. QkSee is not a computer virus by the legal definition of the word. So do not be confused that sometimes we refer to it as QkSee “Virus” and sometimes as QkSee.

QkSee belonging to the Adware type of software means that you will be facing certain drawbacks any time you open up a web browser and decide to browse the internet. As the name suggests you will notice that your default search engine have been changed to another one, much more susceptible to manipulated search results and downright questionable content offerings.

What is QkSee?

We already mentioned the changes to your default search engine and possible your Home start page. You will undoubtedly have to deal with numerous advertisements in different varieties. Mostly pop-ups, banners, toolbars and the occasional pages filled with questionable advertisements. You will also have to deal with the browser redirects and stay focused not to get carried away. What we mean is that when you try to open a specific web address but in addition to it or sometimes instead of it another tab or page would open up with a completely different website. You should immediately leave it and close the tab/page. Such redirects could be potentially very dangerous as you might get exposed to other forms of malicious software.

On a similar note the Ads could be a real threat to your device’s security. That is if you leave the application unattended to for a long time and especially if you start interacting with the advertisements. You should avoid clicking on the ads and especially not downloading any software if suggested by any advertisements. You are in danger of being conned into installing additional and potentially more dangerous malware.

QkSee – how did you end up with it?

This may have happened in a number of ways. Here we will list the most common ways for one to install malware as well as provide some tips for avoiding it in the future.

  • Corrupted .exe files attached to e-mails. This is a very common hustle yet still quite popular in recent times. You probably know that but still – you should be very careful with e-mails containing any attachments. Especially so if the attacked files are with an .exe extension after the file name. There are numerous phishing scams so you can never rest easy, even if the e-mails seems from a legitimate company or person. You should always scan the files before and after downloading them.
  • Infected downloads from torrent or other p2p sharing sites. It is very possible to end up with a computer virus if you are downloading files from file-sharing websites. Such places are known for the low level of actual control over the content that gets uploaded, among other things. So if you are using such sources for your everyday downloads, it is a good idea to scan everything thoroughly before actually opening it.
  • They way in which QkSee has found its way into your computer though is probably quite another. It is called a software-bundling method and is most often used with free programs software. It usually follows a similar path as described here. You decide to install a useful looking free software – whether it be a game, a program or something else, it doesn’t really matter. This is fine and all but after installing this piece of software you might end up with a Potentially Unwanted Program or a downright computer virus. This is due to the fact that hidden in the installer lays additional software that you give permission to access your system in your haste to finish the installation process. You can easily avoid this be carefully studying the Advanced Installation options and ticking off any additional content you don’t want installed.
