Browser hijackers are without a doubt the most annoying pieces of software out there. And unfortunately, they’ve successfully made their way into our portable android devices, such as our smartphones and tablets, as well. What to do about it? Well, that’s exactly what this article is about and we will try to explain on the example of one of the latest programs of this type – Brungasm.info “Virus”. Just like any other android hijacker, it will invade your Chrome, Firefox, Opera or other favorite browser and start generating ads in it, replacing its homepage and perhaps even the search engine, as well as redirecting you to various sponsored pages. Below we will show you how to put a stop to all this and remove the irritating Brungasm “Virus” that’s behind the constant irritation.
What to browser hijackers stand for and where did Brungasm.info “Virus” come from?
Many users mistakenly believe that programs like Brungasm “Virus” are in fact scary viruses or harmful malware that will wreak havoc on their devices. That’s not at all true and it’s unfair to compare these relatively harmless pieces of software to viruses of the ranks of Trojans or ransomware. However, they do tend to get quite invasive and we don’t just mean that by the changes they impose to your browser. Browser hijackers actually often tend to monitor your browsing activity and gather certain information related to your online search requests, the kind of websites you visit and the content you demonstrate interest towards.
This is done so the hijacker may optimize the ads it displays and potentially get you to interact with those ads, thus generating revenue for the developers behind the annoying program. This is often why Brungasm “Virus” and other like it are often dubbed potentially unwanted programs or PUP’s. But how did you end up with Brungasm “Virus” in the first place?
Well, unlike with their desktop counterparts, these guys actually come integrated with other apps, meaning you cannot separate them. In other words, you probably downloaded some app, which had the hijacker incorporated within it. It’s not the most pleasant thing to be faced with, but if you would like to avoid such cases from now on, we would recommend paying better attention to the programs you download. For one, try to only use the Google Play Store to minimize your chances of running into hijackers. But to be on the even safer side, we would suggest researching the apps you would like to download beforehand. If they have something shady about them, someone will be bound to have left a review about it online.
