Welcome to our Adfoc.us “Virus” removal instructions. This article intends to help you remove Adfoc.us from your system and is designed to work for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer and all Windows versions.
Things about Adfoc.us that you might want to know
We’ve all faced intrusive ads throughout the web and had to deal with them on more than one occasions. There’s usually nothing you can do about the majority of those annoying adverts, since they are generated by the sites you see them displayed on. In those cases all you can do is avoid visiting the said sites. However, there’s another kind of intrusive ads that will keep invading your personal space no matter what site you’re visiting, as long as your browser stays open. We are referring to adware-generated ads. These are usually displayed on each of your browsers and on every single page you visit, since they are not generated by the page itself, but by the adware that’s inside of your PC. If you’re currently dealing with that issue, you’ve probably had Adfoc.us installed on your computer. Adfoc.us is one of the latest of adware browser add-ons, therefore, it is most likely that this is the one that is currently residing on your PC.
What do adware actually do? Is Adfoc.us a “Virus”?
At first, seeing all those pop-ups, banners, box messages etc. might seem unsettling. Some people jump to the conclusion that they’ve caught some kind of a nasty virus. In fact many readers have referred to adfoc.us “virus”. However, adware are no viruses and are in fact relatively harmless. Unlike malicious software like Ransomware or Trojan Horses, adware will hardly ever damage your system in any way! It’s just that they are so bloody annoying with all those intrusive ads over your browser. Unlike viruses, adware do not aim to bring mayhem to your system, steal from your bank accounts or spy on you. Instead it’s usually only the intrusive ads and occasional page redirects that make you want to remove the unwanted program. To draw a comparison – a typical Ransomware will lock you out of all of your files. Nonetheless, it ought to be noted that, despite rarely, it is still possible to have your PC’s security compromised should you click on any of the ads. Again, this does not usually happen, but sometimes, when you click on an ad, it may redirect you to some kind of a malicious page or even outright start downloading a potentially dangerous software onto your computer. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid interacting with any of the intrusive pop-ups or page redirects. In fact, the purpose of these ads is exactly that – to collect clicks, thus gaining revenue for Adfoc.us’s developers (via the pay-per-click method). Some adware programs may also alter your browser settings such as your front page and may even attempt to record your online history. No need to worry though – the unwanted add-ons usually cannot access any important information. Besides, the acquired history data is usually used to customize the ads that the adware generates so that they could be more appealing to you based on your preferred websites.
Distribution methods
When it comes to Adfoc.us and adware in general it is essential for you to know how they get distributed throughout the internet. Here, it should be noted that most distribution methods are legal and legit. Same applies to the adware programs themselves – for the most part they are perfectly legal.
Very common distribution method for adware are spam e-mails. Therefore, be careful even when checking your regular inbox. It’s possible that a spam letter might have gotten in there. That’s why you should always look first at the title of the letter and the name of the sender before actually opening it.
Torrent and file-sharing sites are another very commonly used way for distributing adware. Make sure to only download content from trusted sites. You might want to check the reviews and download count for the file you’re about to download. A good anti-adware program might come in handy detecting the unwanted browser add-on before it gets installed on your PC.
Usually the most effective way for Adfoc.us distribution is program-bundling. With this method, the adware is bundled with a third-party program and once you download and install that program, Adfoc.us gets installed along. Despite being arguably the most successful one, it is quite easy and simple to prevent the adware from getting on your machine through program-bundling. All you have to do is opt for the advanced/custom settings in the installation menu and find the list with added content. There, uncheck everything that you may not want on your computer and proceed with the installation of the main thing. Note that it is possible that Adfoc.us may have a different name there. If you are not sure, you should simply uncheck everything you see in that list.
